Listen to this week's Joyshot-Are you making yourself and others unhappy by venting?

Upcoming Online 6- Week Joyful Abundance Course

Hello, Beautiful Sharon,

"It really is alright to feel good even when a friend or loved one is in pain. From a state of well-being, you can be the beacon of light, and lead the way for their stability and wellbeing. And from a state of wellbeing, you can be of greater service to yourself and others."

The Joy Energy

I can suffer big time when I get caught up in others' worries and fears, or when I imagine their suffering.

And though I know when others commiserate with me or I commiserate with others it can bring temporary comfort, and give a short-term sense of connection, but it won't lead to long-term relief. That has to come from within.

Here is a science article that shares a study that backs this up you might enjoy, from Greater Good Magazine

For instance, I have gotten caught up in my husband's fears and went to fear too, and had it escalate into anxiety and panic.

My anxiety and panic then in turn often fed his fears more.

Long term it didn't do either of us any good.

What I know for myself, venting or wallowing in a problem can feel good, if I don't stay there for too long.

Short-term venting can help me let go and lead me to insights and new perspectives.

But venting only helps, if I keep my goal in mind, I want to feel better, and I don't want to stay in a place of suffering.

Plus, I don't want to add to others' suffering and bring them down by my venting. Which I have.

I am more aware of when others are in a vulnerable place and recognize by venting to them I do them a disservice.

More and more I find I can turn things around without venting.

And when I do vent, I've learned I can vent to myself and that can work just as well to lift myself up.

And when I vent to a friend or family member, and they are in a stable centered place, they have helped me go to softer lighter perspectives more quickly.

"There is no greater gift than feeling good in the now moment.".
