Yesterday took an unexpected turn. First thing in the morning, I had to take my dog to the vet. She was attacked and bitten by another dog. I would usually spend that time creating my newsletter. That’s why my Wednesday newsletter is arriving today.

After the vet visit, I felt unsettled and emotionally reactive. It rattled me to see my dog so stressed, even in the hands of compassionate, caring experts. The experience stirred up other worries. I thought about my impossible to-do list, fretted about paying the vet bill, and the upcoming bills that needed to be taken care of.

So despite my efforts to get calm and feel good, which did help some, I still had a lot of ups and downs that day. It took a good night’s sleep to recenter, and I woke up feeling peaceful again.

I share this because I hope you don’t lock yourself into a bad day or make it a big deal if you have one. Before bed, I reminded myself: I’ve felt bad before and come back to the positive, balanced perspective where I like to live.

What I tell my clients: don’t add resistance to your resistance by judging yourself. It’s normal to have bad days or moments, but we don’t have to stay there.

Our mind is accommodating. If you focus on worrisome thoughts or feelings, that’s what it looks for in your organic files. Once that energy gets going, it can be hard to stop. And that’s what happened to me. Thank goodness for sleep.

I’ve been handling a lot of unexpected things this last month, and my to-do list and bills to be paid were bigger than usual. But instead of focusing on the blessings and miracles of how it’s coming together, things are getting done, money is flowing in, yesterday all I could find were the worrisome thoughts.

When you feel out of sorts, ill-tempered, sad, mad, or angry, I invite you to be loving and compassionate with yourself. Remind yourself it’s not a life sentence and you will find your way back to calm. Then do your best to reach for softer, lighter places.

Just by giving ourselves that compassion, we bring in softness and can now access lighter thoughts from our organic files.
